More Subaru coupe speculation

UK's AutoExpress has posted some new info and a new photo-illustration of the upcoming Subaru coupe. Base models, as we know will be RWD, while the range-topping 300 hp turbo will likely get AWD—which it will need to harness all that power properly.

Full story here.

UPDATE: Actual (first!) spy shots here... Don't be fooled by the cobbled up bodywork here, as this is a "test mule."

Now that looks a lot better. The sides are a little too busy and I wish they'd change that grille, but it does look good otherwise.

Why the Civic headlights?

I like it too.

Say..... is it my imagination, or are there a disproportionate number of Subie postings in this blog!?!

;-)

Remember, this is just a "speculstration." :)

Guilty as charged... ;)

That's because Subaru (and Mazda)have taken over from Honda and Toyota as the new cool cars for the "in" crowd.

Didn't you get the memo? :)

"the range-topping 300 hp turbo will likely get AWD—which it will need to harness all that power properly."

Really? Don't a lot of cars have way more power than that driving the rear wheels and still handle beautifully? The 911 and M3 come to mind.

front end reminds me of a 09 tsx...

This photochop is funny! =Þ

1) The wheels/brakes look like those of a 2006-2007 WRX.

2) What cah11705 said.

Personally, I'd rather have the 5-door STI. :o)

I think it will be a cool little car but I'm not sure if it will be a success.

The market for sport coupes vanished at the end of the 90's and I'm not sure if it will come back soon.

Hopefully it will be cheap enough that singles in their 20's can afford it or fast enough us old people in their 40's and 50's will want it.

That's pretty. And it's got this Opel feel to it. Does Opel already have something in this design direction?

Firstwagon -- I don't think the market for sport coupes have died. The fact that teens and 20s drivers continue to make performance cars out of Scion tC, Honda Civic coupes, Infinity has kept around the G35/37, and now Nissan has introduced it's Altima Coupe. Also there were quite a few Ford Focus SVTs sold a few years back and BMW M3s.

They may not have a big market share, but there are sporty coupes out there if you're willing to look and/or build customize them.

This photochop is in the July 2008 issue of Road & Track, too.

Cool photos, Bob! It looks like a mini-Legacy! I spy Recaro seats, too!

All I can wish is for Subaru to keep AWD and Toyota RWD.

I doubt it will look like that top sketch.

The test mule is using a chopped up Legacy body, you can tell by the headlights and grille.

If you think it looks like a TSX, well, then the TSX looks like the existing Legacy, because it came out first.

The sooner Subaru expands beyond AWD the better.

I like it (photochopped version)! The back could use some cleaning up though; ridiculous fender flares are out. How does the front look so similar to the new Imprezza but not ugly?

That looks mean as $#!t. Maybe the base version can go head to head with the next gen Honda Civic SI. I wish they woud make a sedan verion like they have with the SI & the M3.
