The Lincoln Highway via Piaggio MP3

Lincoln Hwy_Piaggio 555.jpg

A couple of young-at-heart 70 year-olds have decided to travel arguably America's most important historical road, the Lincoln Highway--and on Piaggio MP3 motor scooters, no less. Follow their scooter travels and adventures here at their blog.

Now, as a former "biker," I can say there is nothing like traveling by bike, be it motorcycle, scooter, or the plain old pedal-it-yourself variety. It's far more compelling and invigorating when you plop your feet down god's green earth (asphalt?) at a red light, than rolling to a stop in an air-conditioned car.

...And speaking of the Lincoln Highway, viewers here may remember a somewhat fond recollection I had of this road back in November (Memories of the Lincoln Highway and the National Road).

Of note the MP3 scooter is of the 3 wheeled design.
It has 2 wheels in the front, one in back like the old Morgan cars. It leans in the direction of the turn like a motorcycle. I do not think a motorcycle license is required in CA so maybe Edmunds should pit one up against the Smart?

Thanks for the clarification. :)

the mp3 is a motorcycle... if CA doesn't require a MC license for it no wonder fatalities are hitting the roof in the US...

and everyone that's driven a mp3 would not suggest to anyone driving one without a license... @ least a license for which you have to pratice (theoretical and hands on) and take a real test....

Shoot, I *have* a motorcycle license and would want some training before taking that out on public roads.

Sounds like a really cool road trip. :-)

Smoke, you Sir, are correct!

"400. (a) A "motorcycle" is any motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider, designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, and weighing less than 1,500 pounds."
