Ford cutting way back on '09 F-150 choices

F150Plat_front.preview555.jpg

Finally some sensible decisions on Ford's part: They are cutting the crazy amount of choices available on the '09 F-150. Winding Road (via Automotove News) is saying it could be as high as 99 percent from the billions (you read that correctly!) currently available. If true, that's HUGE!

The Expedition will also be reduced greatly from roughly 250,000 possible choices to around 10,000. Even the Focus is going to offer about 150 possible combos, which is down 95 percent.

An article I read said a 90% cutback in choices. It only takes a few options removed (or made standard or packaged) to bring it down 90%. Also, if it was first billions, that's now hundreds of millions. Hundreds of millions is still a heck of a lot.

150 on the Focus seems a little extreme on the other end. I suspect that 99.9% of Foci sold fell within that 150 though.

It's about time. Who needs 8 trimlines?! What was Ford thinking. This will save them so much money. That's the one thing I will give to Honda. Nobody's model/option choices are more simplified. Some complain about it, but I think to many options complicate things.
