Slowly but surely Subaru is spreading their nifty new 2.0L diesel around to other models. First it appeared in European Legacys and Outbacks, but using a 5-speed manual gearbox. Now not only is the UK-spec Impreza getting that oil burner, but it is also being paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Deliveries are expected to begin after the first of the year.
When the Subie diesel makes it Stateside (it's a-comin' folks, just not sure when...), I fully expect it to also have this 6-speed tranny hooked up to it, as well as a CVT option.
Also of interest to Subie diesel fans is the all-new Forester in the UK which also has a diesel option, beginning in September. It too comes with a 6-speed manual.

It is good to see Subaru get going with the 6 speed gearbox. They need more efficient cars for the USA. For some customers, the power wars are not happening. I loved my old 2 wheel drive DL wagon which was small and light but also well under 100hp from the 1981 1.8 litre. But I had so much fun driving it I tried to tear the gearbox out of it.
Wow, it makes 79% more torque than the 2.0l gas engine sold in that market, and at lower rpm of course.
I believe it would still need to be cleaned up to meet CARB standards but that is encouraging.
Impreza 5 door, WRX, Legacy Wagon or Legacy Sedan with diesel, I'm ready to write a check today.
