Jeep Liberty or Dodge Nitro? Only one will survive

For me it's a no-brainer: Jeep Liberty all the way.

I never understood the Nitro. Oh, it's kinda cool looking, but it clearly steps on the Liberty's toes in the marketplace. Besides, it doesn't even offer a low-range 4WD! What kind of "Ruf-N'-Ready" SUV is that? It's got all of the traditional SUV disadvantages, yet it's is missing the most essential of all traditional SUV advantages--that being good off-road ability. It should never have been made in the first place. Ax it--and the sooner the better!

Liberty.
So much unpainted plastic on the Nitro looks like it's half baked.

I see why Chrysler is in its current state as they really just seem not to care if they produce mediocre low quality vehicles.

The Nitro is a plastic joke, and the Liberty is insulting to Jeep's heritage. Ax both of them.

Improve the Liberty's interior and give it a modern powertrain.

keep the liberty and take the money that you were spending on the Nitro to make it look different than the liberty and make the Liberty better.

Or, here's a thought... I happened to drive past a 4-door Wrangler sitting right next to a Liberty the other day and I was stuck by how similar they were to each other. I actually had to do a double take to realize they were two different vehicles. Granted I caught the profile and not the face, but other than the obvious hard top on the Wrangler, they looked to be about the same size.

Why not take both platforms and ax them both and create 2 vehicles using the same platform?? I mean you could make each vehicle unique in that the Wrangler is your true-blue off road machine and now it has 4 doors and is still topless, while the liberty can be your fully enclosed, but still just as capable off-road machine. I mean that's what it used to be when the Cherokee was around right??

Please make the M80 on the Nitro platform like it was supposed to be. There is no competition for the Ford Ranger right now. Ralph Gilles could upgrade the concept a bit and it would be super.

I like big al's suggestion.

Ditch both current versions and use the Wrangler platform to make a hard top version for the Liberty.

I'd like to see a pick up version of the Wrangler too while they are at it. The aftermarket was converting 4 door Wrangler into a pick ups with weeks of the trucks release but Jeep still doesn't make one.

Come on Jeep. It's cheap and easy enough for your average smuck to do it in their driveway, you can do it too.

They need to do to the liberty that they did for the 09 ram. If they don't give it a full upgrade then it is a waste to sell ether.

Ax the Nitro; keep and improve the Liberty.

I like the Liberty better too! Axe the Nitro(take the compass and commander too while no one is looking... Literally)

The current Liberty's exterior is excellent! Its the Play-Skool interior, veteran engine, and ancient transmission that hurts this jeep!

Sadly, all Chrysler's Engines are sorry. They need all new engines all around! The only good ones are the Hemi V8 and 3.5l V6.

The Liberty could use a 250p v6 Standard 18/26mpg and a 200hp 4/6L Diesel option 22/34mpg. Nice touch materials inside instead of all the hard plastics would make it great!

Maybe the option of a Glass Panoramic Sunroof like the Ford Edge instead of the Fabric one...

I'm with firstwagon-- make a Wrangler pickup. If I could get a two door Wrangler pickup with a six speed and a diesel option, I'd get it without a doubt. Good gas mileage and an ability to haul stuff when needed and I'm there-- that or Ford needs to finally overhaul their Ranger and put in an eco-boost 6 cylinder-- a little Lightning.

When Ford does the F-100, it won't be with an Eco-Boost V6, that would make no sense in a light duty pickup, the Eco-Boost 4cyl makes more sense.

F-100 has been tabled as of the most recent news.

Are we unanimous? Liberty all the way.

Might be the first time we can all agree on something.

Count me in for the Liberty as well. I agree with others that the exterior styling is good....other aspects lack however. I do think it's a better looking vehicle than the original - butched it up some.

RE: the Ranger - I have been PO'd at Ford for a long time now for letting it become so outdated. But with its recent sales, I guess the bean counters are having the last laugh now.

"But with its recent sales, I guess the bean counters are having the last laugh now."

Actually I've heard they lose money on everyone of the deeped discounted Rangers, not something to keep bean counters happy.
