The official unveiling of the 2011 Chevy Cruze had all the pomp and circumstance of a Tuesday. No press conference. No dancing girls. No nothing. Just the car sitting in the Chevy stand on a plain white platform.
This understated approach could not be more appropriate for GM's soon-to-be small sedan, which will be sold around the world and will replace the Cobalt in the States. The car itself displays a welcome simplicity. Sobriety in the center of an auto show filled with machines that are simply trying too hard.
Well, almost. Somebody at Chevy fitted the showcar with oversize rubber and a massive set of cross-drilled brakes (pictures after the jump). Something tells me the production model will get a different set of stoppers. Just a hunch. -- Scott Oldham, Inside Line Editor in Chief

I like it so far. Especially in that color. The thing that will really make or break it is the interior, though.
This car inspires so passion in me. I hope the coupe is nicer.
Civic Killer? This might be what GM needs to outstep Honda at its own game. Ofcourse we haven't seen the inside, but if it is to the Civic what the MAlibu's is to the Accord's, Chevy has a winner.
This is all fine and great in an auto show, but wait till real people start to buy them.
They wont look half as good, riding on 15" steel wheels with el-cheapo covers, big plastic panels where the fog lights should be, and a "no-options" inteior.
Then after half a million people buy one, it will just be another cheap car that no one will care about.
Sorry to be a buzz-kill.
I apologize to all GM fans out there, but...
That bowtie badge kills the look of ANY GM car, for me.
Why does CHevy keep changing the name?
"Then after half a million people buy one, it will just be another cheap car that no one will care about."
I'd assume the half million people who bought one would care about them.
What's really important about this car is how it drives, not the fog lights, wheels or other bolt ons.
The Fit is a homely little thing but it's been a huge hit because it drives great.
If the Cruze is a fun little car to drive and makes people smile then it will be a huge hit.
If, like the Aveo, you need to justify it by saying "well it was a great price and it gets great mileage" then you will be right. Another car that no one cares about.
Felonious, I don't see the bowtie badge on GMC's, Pontiacs, Cadillacs, Saabs, Saturns, Holdens, Hummers, Buicks or Opels.
So perhaps you don't like the bowtie badge specifically on Chevrolets? Not generally GM vehicles?
Exterior is a bit overdone.
Hopefully the interior is up to the Malibu standard, especially that two-tone one.
