So the bloodletting begins...

Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli has announced that 5,000 salaried workers--that's one in four employees-- would be let go beginning next month. The reign of job terror should be over by the end of December. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Here's Inside Line's take: Chrysler Slashes Another 25 Percent of White-Collar Workforce

Sounds like Cerberus is trying to make Chrysler more attractive to a takeover. This would save the new owner from the negative publicity of slashing jobs.

I have a feeling that the top echelon of management make more money than the entire 25% of those who are going to be fired.
Guess who's responsible for the mess? It sure as heck aint the workers getting fired.

I'm sure Bobby's salary hasn't suffered a bit! He's doing such a fine job!

"Guess who's responsible for the mess? It sure as heck aint the workers getting fired."

While I blame the top guys too, I also blame the rest.

Top guys don't build the cars... they aren't the ones who approved the cheap hard plastic or failed to tighten the screws on the trim that's now rattling.

They haven't fixed the problem but they aren't the cause either.

"Top guys don't build the cars... they aren't the ones who approved the cheap hard plastic or failed to tighten the screws on the trim that's now rattling."

They are exactly the ones who approved the lousy designs and terrible material quality . Those rattling trim panels most probably are due to substandard materials, not some dood not knowing which end of a screwdriver is which.

I can assure you no one at Cereberus has a clue what goes on at the assembly or engineering level.

They are just a hedge fund company.

They didn't cause the problem nor did they fix it.

After a dozen years in engineering support and product development, I would be surprised if the senior managers even know what building these decisions are made in... never mind who made them.

They are trying to make Chrysler more attractive to potential buyers (read: GM).
