Hot on the heels of a possible GM-Chrysler tie-up is a story that Ford might sell Mazda. Desperate times, desperate actions indeed...
"We're looking at a lot of different things with liquidity in mind," said one person close to the situation. "But things are changing week to week, and I don't know if anything is going to happen or not. Nothing is imminent or definitive."
Ford spokesman Mark Truby states the following: "Our relationship with Mazda remains unchanged." No surprise there. Until something is definite, don't expect anything of any substance to come from either party.

Those two companies are so tightly intertwined, I would be surprised if Ford were to sell Mazda.
The question is: who would buy?
Hyundai? Nissan?
Besides the financial aspects and maybe the supplier relationships, Mazda would lose a 6cyl engine and a midsize factory. Ford would lose a two 4cyl engines, the Fusion/Edge chassis, and the Escape chassis. Seems that Ford would have more to lose than Mazda unless Ford can bring over more Euro products.
Whoever ends up with Mazda, here's hoping that they can get engines with better fuel economy and still have good power output.
Sounds like Mazdas will end up with better mpg from this. 17/25 from a V6 FWD? pffffft.
estreka, I heard Tata is interested. Surprise.
billt9, The Ford 3.5L, from which the Mazda 3.7 is derived, is very competitive with Toyota, Nissan, etc. It's the Mazda (and possibly Lincoln) implementation that falls short.
7driver, would any of them really lose anything? I suspect it's difficult fully categorize any of those items as being fully Mazda or Ford.
Mazda is the only good thing Ford has going these days.
Maybe Mazda should sell off Ford and go it alone.
Just keep building Miatas, Mazda. Please!
Tata Miata has a nice ring to it! :D
