Porsche entry-level model rumors

porsche_hatch_260.jpg

Looks like there may indeed be some truth to a possible new entry-level Porsche. Not too long ago Straightline reported that there may be a new 4-cylinder model (Porsche and BMW may be considering 4-cylinder engines), possibly a Boxster or perhaps even a 911. Now there is this latest rumor that adds credibility to the fact that Porsche is thinking of offering a less expensive model to their lineup.

This rumor, however, suggests a small hatch, and that it may be developed with VW, and targeted at the BMW 1-Series hatch. What's not clear (actually there's a lot that's not clear at this point) is whether VW will also get a variant of this model. That was the case with the original 914, in that both Porsche and VW sold versions of this car.

Oh boy, this could be really good, or it could be really terrible.

This simply CANNOT be FWD-based. No way, no how.

Some people might balk at the thought of Porsche doing an entry-level car (like some do with the Boxster), but it really doesn't bother me too much. The Cayenne, though, is an affront to everything that Porsche stands for. Big, Fat, and Ugly.

I highly doubt we will ever see a FWD Porsche regardless of VW's involvement.

not a shot porsche would make it a 911 cause then a cayman would be faster and i already know the cayman has potential to be faster but porsche needs to keep the 911 as king

If they slap a Porsche crest on a GTI, I'm going to short sell their stock.

I hope they don't try to pass off a rebadged Golf as as Porsche (which I could see the money crunchers really wanting to do). No matter how hard the dedicated fans push, any front drive hatchback will be more Golf then porsche.

I have no problem with a 4 cylinder Porsche though. An all new platform, rear or mid engine, weighing in about 2400 lbs, priced just over a loaded Miata would make me happy.

It would boost Porsches image to have a car that's more like the cars that made them famous in the fist place. Early Porsches were were not luxury cars by any stretch of the imagination. They were pure sports cars.

If the car is still Rear Engine Rear drive, I hope they use the platform for the next beetle. The true return of an icon!

Also I think porsche's 4CYL would use the 2.0T Engine.
