Direct Injection coming to smaller GM V6s

gm_h_f_v6 555.jpg

If the rumors prove true, it looks like several next-gen GM vehicles (SRX and Equinox) could be getting direct Injection, but in a smaller 3.0 V6. The General is currently offering DI in some larger V6s, and they are getting good reviews. So this is also good news for those who want DI, but in a smaller engine size.

Full story here and here.

Assuming GM doesn't go belly up in the next year or two, which is a damned big assumption to make unless we're talking about billions of dollars of taxpayer money being thrown at the failures who run the company.

There should be a second article about how smaller GM v6's are coming to a few new models. With DI, there's no reason a 3.0 liter V6 can't produce 240hp, enough for about everything in the GM stable that sits five or fewer.

They produce more than that with their 2.0 I4 turbo engine in the Solstice/Sky. That engine should be in a much broader range of vehicles, too.

Bepperb, it should be fairly easy for GM given Honda had a SOHC 3.0L V6 with 240-244hp from 2003-2007 and BMW currently has a 3.0L I6 with 255hp. Both the Honda and BMW engines were/are quite efficient so a new design with DI implemented should do even better.

Orangutan, I couldnt agree more. GM's 2.0T drivetrain is superb although Id like to see a 6MT offered instead of the 5MT to further enhance overall performance and economy.

Sounds good. They should phase out the non-DI 3.6l V6.
