Tough economic times take their toll at auto shows

auto shows 555.jpg

We mentioned that GM had canceled any and all announcements at the LA auto show. Porsche has passed on the Detroit show, as will Suzuki. Now word is out that Ferrari, Land Rover and Rolls-Royce have backed out of the Detroit show. Wow...

I'm sure attendance will plunge anyway.

People still live in Detroit?
Census estimates a pop decline of 100K folks since 1990 (1.028M to 917K).

God this makes me sick. As a resident of Detroit and a former reporter for the Free Press who covered the show for many years, it is a horrible punch to the gut.

"Wow"?

Detroit, where Ford Taurus and Chevy Malibus outnumber Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords, where the airport is plastered with GM logos everywhere.
It's a natural waste of money for non-big 3s to advertise there.
