GM's gas incentive

If you live in Florida or California, you've probably heard about the latest newfangled incentive to come from Detroit. If you live in any of the other 48 states, well, this won't apply to you, so you can stop reading.

But for all you Floridians and Californians the way it works is that for an entire year, GM will subsdize your gas bill. That's right, you won't have to pay more than $1.99/ gallon for an entire year...

They track your consumption through OnStar diagnostics, and at the end of each month send you a rebate check (based on the average price of gas in your metropolitan area). Pretty nifty huh? But is it a good deal?

That all depends on a couple things
1) We don't yet know how GM will adjust their other incentives such as low apr financing and customer cash rebates. If they remain the same and add the gas incentive on top, it's a good deal.
2) How much do you drive? If you drive 8,000 miles a year, you won't reap the same benefits as if you drive 25,000.

Oh, and it only applies to GMs large SUVs and a few large cars. Ironic, isn't it? In a way, they are encouraging the purchase of gas-guzzlers by paying for the gas... It's like encouraging a fat guy to keep eating at McDonald's by giving him free french fries.

Rather than go with the cheap shot (two bucks for gasoline) of GM, wouldn't it be better to boycott the buying of all new cars for one month until the price of a gallon of gas goes below 1 buck.

Could you see after one month the cars stacked 4 to 20 high in unbelievable layers, at where the new cars hang out. After one month the car bunch will scream at Congress to do something. Maybe Congress will put you in jail for not buying a new car?

Congress could nationalize the oil industry and fix the price of a gallon
of gas at 94 cents.

If you need to buy a car, go out and buy it. But, if you don't have to buy just right now, don't do it.

If one month is not enough, July always follows June. Could you see the layers grow!

I am delaying my purchase until the price of gas goes down. Will you help!

I like the part about Congress putting you in jail for not buying a car. Dealers seem to think its our patriotic duty to buy their cars, not afford the gas and go broke as a result. You're right, something has to change.
