Maintenance: Unpimp My Ride

We bought a 2005 Jetta TDI for our long term fleet several weeks ago. Everyone loved the car but hated the rear window tint. Looking out the back was like being in the middle of a bad dream, those dreams where you can't quite see what's going on but you know it's important. Here's what it looked like:

I did a Google search for "window tint" in Long Beach, CA, and got a dozen hits...

I called five of them and got estimates from $60 to $95. Yesterday, I drove it to International Auto Glass and Window Tint on Anaheim Street in Long Beach which is populated by every type of body shop, stereo installer and chop shop known to man.

Inside, I found Ricardo behind a metal desk covered with tint samples and alarm system brochures. My request was simple: "Richardo, can you unpimp my ride?" Two hours later, and $65 lighter, this was the view out the back:
