Guns or Gas?

Gas prices may be sky high, but apparently most Americans (at least those in Buttler, MO) would prefer a free gun over gas. Max Motors is currently offering anyone who purchases a vehicle the choice of either $250 in gas or a gift certificate, worth the same amount, good at the local gun store. Their offer has garnered international attention and has no doubt been good for business. Most curious, however, are reports that about 80% of people have chosen the handgun over the gas...

I won't comment on the social, political or religious impact of what this dealer is promoting. However, from a buyer's standpoint, these types of promotions are generally not that good for the customer. There is little doubt that Max Motors can hide the $250 in the cost of the vehicle, value of the trade-in, the finance rate or just a dealer fee. As with Chrysler's gas card promotion, these types of give-a-ways tend to offer lots of sizzle and very little steak. Or to put it another way, you likely won't get much BANG for your buck if you take them up on this deal.

Har, har.

It's amazing how cheap giveaways lure people into stores. Surely someone wouldn't move up their plans to spend $20K or $30K just for a $250 premium, would they?
