Toyota can't produce enough hybrid batteries

This is one of those good-news-bad-news stories: The good news is that the demand for Toyota's hybrid models is at a record pace. The bad news is that Toyota can't crank out enough batteries to satisfy the demand.

Toyota has entered a joint venture with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., which makes Panasonic products, and will begin producing next-generation lithium-ion batteries in 2009, and move into full-scale production in 2010. Toyota also is setting up a battery research department later this month to develop an innovative battery that can outperform even that lithium-ion battery...
