A Car Buff's Christmas List

f430roadster.jpg

Imagine that you have a rich car fanatic relative, someone like Jay Leno, who says he'll get you six cars of your choice for Christmas.  The stipulations are that three must be new and that of the six, three are domestic and three are foreign.

Of course, my list will probably change right after I post this blog..."Shoot, I forgot about the ____".  But nonetheless, these would be (for the moment) my six picks...

New:

Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

I love the understated, clean lines of this hot-rod Benz and the fact that with a 507-horsepower V8 and a 0-to-60 time of around 4.5 seconds, it can blow the doors off most sports cars, all while providing comfortable transport for four adults.

Ferrari F430 Spider (shown in yellow before the jump)

Even though the styling doesn't do it for me like the old F355, the impressive overall performance and the F430's wicked sound make up for it. I'll take the three-pedal version in black with red leather.

Ford Escape Hybrid

For when I need to run errands, haul purchases from Costco or pick up folks at the airport. And also to ease my conscience by offsetting the fuel usage of the other cars in this fantasy collection.

Old:

1962 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster

That's right, not the iconic Gullwing. Though I love how the Gullwing looks, I'll take the still handsome roadster so I can enjoy the ocean breeze rather than bake inside the cockpit on a warm summer's day.  Oh yea, it also has more power as well as four-wheel disc brakes, while the Gullwing had drums.  Silver with red leather.

1963 Lincoln Continental convertible

The Lincoln's clean yet classy styling, along with having four doors with a convertible top, make this a car for special occasions.  Forty-five years later, this car would still look great pulling up to a fancy hotel or wedding reception. Black with red leather.

1970 Chevelle SS454 LS-6

Classic musclecar looks along with a thumpin' 450-horse big block. Of course it'd be a four speed with buckets and console. Astro Blue with black stripes and blue interior.

What would your picks be?

New

Ferrari F430 Scuderia
Corvette ZR1
Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Old

2006 Ford GT
2006 Porsche Carrera GT
2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe (would've liked to have the 2009 ACR but not as much as the ZR1)

New

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: a car i can drive on dry days
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4: a car i can drive on wet days
Ford F650 Supercab XLT with Century Car Carrier with "right approach system": the bed is hinged to allow easy loading of low exotic cars.

Old

Ferrari Enzo: Collector car/ limited use
Porsche Carrera GT: Collector car/ limited use
Ford GT: Collector car/ limited use

I could easily pick six awesome sports cars, but if we're being practical and still have a family in this scenario, I'd pick:

New:
-Suburban 2500 LTZ - for family stuff and towing the camper
-BMW M3 sedan (manual) - my daily driver
-Ferrari California - red with tan interior

Old:
-1985 Ferrari Testarossa - again red with tan
-1963 Corvette Sting Ray convertible - black on black
-1966 Mustang -Red with white vinyl. Definitely a V8, but nothing too rare or special because I'd actually want to drive this one fairly often.
