Latest Vehicle Recalls - Is Your Vehicle On The List?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released its latest list of vehicle recalls. The 2009 Mazda6, Ford Ranger, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 and 2005-2007 Ferrari F430 are all on the list.

Most serious is the recall of 29,000 Mazda6 sedans, all-new for 2009. The recall surrounds a problem with a sticking door handle that can prevent the latch from closing and securing the door properly. This can lead to the doors opening up unexpectedly. Dealers will replace the door handles and any associated hardware as necessary.

Ford is recalling 11,000 2009 Rangers to replace front wheel spindles that can fail. Dealers will remove and replace the faulty spindles, which can cause the wheel to fall off, if it fails.

13,000 2009 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan twins are being recalled to seal a circuit for unused connectors for the blind-spot warning system. If not corrected, there is the chance that the connectors may corrode causing electrical gremlins, or perhaps even a fire. Dealers will seal the necessary components and replace any bad fuses.

8,000 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 sedans are being recalled to lubricate a connector that may corrode if not addressed. The corroded connector may cause the brake lights to fail, prevent the cruise control from engaging and/or make it difficult to shift out of park. The dealer will lubricate the connector.

Finally, 2,000 2005-2007 Ferrari F430 convertibles are to have heat shields installed on hydraulic hoses for the convertible top mechanism to prevent hydraulic fluid from leaking in the engine compartment, which could result in smoking and/or burning hydraulic fluid. Ferrari's should only smoke tires, right?

I really like recalls.

The manufactor has discovered a problem, they let you know about it and they fix it for free.

That's all fine with me.

Stuff happens, I like it when they admit it and take care of it as opposed to the more common practice of...

#1- deny there's a problem

#2 - blame the driver

#3 - drag out through the courts until the owner gives up and buys a different car.

Time for us to take our F430s in for service, Lee! :o)
