Deal Of The Week - Jeep Wrangler

DealoftheWeekHeader.jpg Jeep-Wrangler-Unlimited-Front-Left-3-1280x960.jpg

The Jeep Wrangler is an icon, the quintessential American off-road vehicle. In a world of do-everything cross-overs, the Wrangler makes no excuses for its intentions as a vehicle with the singular purpose of being the best off-road vehicle it can be. While this results in the Wrangler being unmatched off-road, it limits its ability (and appeal) on-road. Despite this single-minded objective, Wrangler sales have usually been particularly strong, especially when compared to its competitors. Strong sales have usually resulted in limited incentives being placed on the Wrangler. However, this month, there are deals to be had. Read the details after the jump.

I mentioned that the Wrangler has usually enjoyed strong sales. Last month, Jeep sold 9,088 Wranglers. That was actually an increase of 2,000 over last year. Contrast this to the 1,616 Toyota FJ Cruisers and 1,105 Nissan Xterras that were sold in February, and both had a sales drop of over 50% from the prior year. Other than the new-for-2008 Dodge Journey, the Jeep Wrangler is the only Chrysler product to show a year-over-year sales increase.

You would think that with sales numbers like that, you wouldn't be able to score a good deal on a Wrangler. However, that is not the case. Along with most other Chrysler LLC products, the Wrangler benefits from "Employee Pricing Plus." With this promotion, Wrangler buyers will pay the Chrysler employee price, along with $1000 bonus cash if you finance through Chrysler Financial. If you do finance through Chrysler Financial, you can expect 0% financing for up to 36 months. If you choose not to finance through Chrysler, you can still get an additional $500 cash back.

Recently, I have been hesitant to suggest any Chrysler products to anyone who asks. Of the three domestic automakers, I have felt that Chrysler's long-term survival was the most in question. However, the Jeep brand has an intrinsic value in the automotive industry. Jeep (and indeed the current Wrangler's predecessors) have been around since the 1940's. In that time, Jeep has been owned by a number of parent companies such as Willys-Overland, Kaiser and American Motors. None of those companies are still around, but both Jeep and the Wrangler are. Even if Chrysler goes the way of AMC, Jeep will be bought by someone and will continue to thrive. Because of this, I feel confident recommending the Jeep Wrangler as my deal-of-the-week.

As god is my witness, I will never understand why people ever thought these lame boxes that resemble pregnant station wagons and drive like pickup trucks were ever "cool".

I believe the appropriate response is:
"It's a Jeep thing."

Also, my generation grew up in love with Daisy Duke, so I gotta have one some day.
