Dream Car Corner: For My Fellow SoCal Car Buffs, a Few Shows to Bookmark
My fellow classic car fanatics are no doubt familiar with the heavy hitters as far as Concours d'Elegance go, such as Pebble Beach and Amelia Island. But sadly they've gotten too popular (and deemed the "place to be") among folks who are more interested in telling their friends they went there and saw so-and-so than actually viewing the gorgeous automotive sculpture that's displayed on the lush lawns. Weaving your way through the throngs gets old.
Fortunately there is the Los Angeles Concours. Now in its fourth year, the L.A. show brings a stunning variety of top-notch cars. Held a few weeks ago, the show offered everything from a 1901 Locomobile steam car to a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 428 (above), with plenty of iconic classics such as a Lamborghini Miura (below), V12 Packards and original Shelby Cobras in between. Held at the Brookside golf course situated right next to the Pasadena Rose Bowl, the L.A. Concours gives visitors the Concours experience without the hassles.
If you're bummed you just missed that one and will be near Beverly Hills this Father's Day, you may want to check out the annual Rodeo Drive Concours. Set on the famous frou-frou street, this show is free and has plenty of eye candy, both classic and modern.
