Auto Observer: Half-Hearted Cash for Clunkers Bill Awaits President's Pen
The Cash for Clunkers bill was approved by both houses of Congress last Friday. It has been renamed the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Program (CARS). On the NHTSA website, it also goes by the Car Allowance Rebate System. During its wild ride through Congress, the program has been scaled down in duration and allotted funds.  After the president signs the bill into law, NHTSA has 30 days to hammer out the details.

Auto Observer: Pontiac Vibe Done in August
The Pontiac Vibe, a GM-Toyota joint venture, will end its production run in August as part of GM's restructuring plan. Buyers interested in the Vibe's styling over its sibling the Toyota Matrix should get one while there's a greater selection to choose from.

Inside Line: 2010 Buick LaCrosse Will Add Four-Cylinder Option
In an effort to meet rising fuel economy demands, Buick will add a 2.4 liter engine option to the 2010 LaCrosse. The more fuel efficient 182 horsepower engine is expected to average 30 mpg on the highway.
