Supercar Maker Koenigsegg Poised to Buy Saab

Swedish manufacturer Koenigsegg, makers of one of the fastest and most intriguing modern supercars, announced they intend to buy Saab from GM. This development greatly increases Saab's chances of survival and all but insures the continued development and release of models already in the pipeline. The deal includes $600 million underwritten by the European Investment Bank and guaranteed by the Swedish government.

As part of the proposed transaction, GM will continue providing architecture and powertrain technology for a defined time period. In essence, this brings in cash to the GM coffers and allows Saab to make-or-break it on its own. With any luck, stateside automotive enthusiasts may see some of the wild Koenigsegg spirit in future Saab models.
