Safety Recall: Side Airbags May Not Deploy on 2008 BMW 1 and 3 Series
Today the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall for all 2008 BMW 1 Series and 3 Series cars. Incorrect crimp connectors may have been used on the side airbag and seat belt tensioner wiring in the front seat. This could result in the airbag or seat belt failing to act when needed, increasing the injury risk. Side impact crashes are more common than frontal crashes.
BMW hasn't issued a plan for the recall yet, but owners should call BMW at 1-800-831-1117. The campaign ID number is 09V257000, and owners can also contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at at 1-888-327-4236 or go to Safercar.gov.
