Tech Tuesdays: Bob Dylan -- Voice of a Generation to Become Voice of Navigation

Dylan on your Nav.jpg

Music legend Bob Dylan may join other celebs such as Burt Reynolds, John Cleese, Dennis Hopper and Homer Simpson as the voice for a navigation system. The enigmatic singer-songwriter, who was considered the voice of his generation in the '60s, recently revealed on his XM Siruis "Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour" show that he's "talking to a couple of car companies about being the voice of their GPS systems."

The gravelly voiced singer, who has been on a roll of late with a string of albums that many consider among the best in his nearly 50-year career as well as film and book projects, said he "probably shouldn't do it because whichever way I go I always end up at one place: Lonely Street."

But then no one would have guessed that the Jewish singer would record a Christmas album either.

We can just imagine all the plays on "no direction home" -- one of his most famous lyrics and also the title of a recent documentary of the Dylan's early years by director Martin Scorsese --  will inspire if the singer does commit to the project.

And we wonder which car company and model Dylan's voice would fit best. Our money is on Cadillac since the bard has already appeared in a commercial for the brand.

Which other singers should do the same, and for which cars?

Jeez.... I remember when Phil Collins and Eric Clapton were called "sellouts" for lending just their music to Anheuser-Busch for the "After Midnight" Michelob campaign. Now, the voice of the 60's is driving a Caddy and shilling for them (and XM!) as well. Guess everyone has a price.
