Used Car Corner: Owner's Clubs Not Just for Gear Heads

Most folks probably think of car owners' clubs as something meant only for those who wash their beloved car with baby diapers and who can recite production numbers and engine output figures at will. Though that's certainly true, these clubs are also a great benefit to owners who may just be interested in some advice or who are looking to buy or sell a particular model.
Years ago, I had a 1988 Toyota MR2 Supercharged that I had bought used from a dealer with just 44k on the clock. I enjoyed it greatly for about 40,000 miles and then needed to sell it to get something more practical than a sports car. I checked around on the internet and found an MR2 Owners' Club site which had tons of information on the car (its history, how many made, performance numbers) as well as an owners' forum and a "For Sale" section. I posted an ad and sold the car for my asking price to the first person who came out to look at it. He was a serious MR2 enthusiast and was happy as a lark with the car.
However, there are owners' clubs for all kinds of cars, ranging from everyday economy cars to exotics. Should you need advice on a particular problem, want to know the history of your car (meaning when it debuted, what the powertrain specs are) or are looking to buy or sell that particular car, I'd suggest running a Google search for an owners' club.

Car clubs can also add another level of fun with your car. I've never joined any car clubs until I got the Miata, but I decided to join my local Miata club recently.
We find twisty local roads to drive on. We have tech days where everyone can work on cars and talk about cars.
I can say it has really added another level of ownership experience and made me appreciate the car that much more.
