Deal of the Week: 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse

The sport-coupe segment has always been a tough sandbox for manufacturers to play in. The consumers who buy these types of vehicles tend to be very fickle, tending to gravitate to the freshest vehicles available. This leaves the more seasoned selections with lots of time to work on their tans, as they linger on dealer lots. Mitsubishi's Eclipse is no exception, as sales of this now four-year old model have been steadily declining.
The current Eclipse, on sale since the 2006 model year, has always had aggressive styling. This attribute was further enhanced for the 2009 model year, with the addition of a blacked-out front bumper and a tweaked rear end with a redesigned wing. Backing up the look is the available 3.8L V6 that is good for 265 hp and performance that won't leave the driver embarrassed at the stop-light grand prix.
However, with new competitors such as the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, redesigned hot hatches including the MazdaSpeed3 and VW GTI and pony cars Mustang and Camaro available, there are plenty of other contenders vying for buyers attention. Mitsubishi is hoping that some enticing incentives will set the Eclipse apart from the crowd.
0% financing is tends to be an eye-catching offer for most consumers. When you can borrow someone else's money for free, it is always a good thing. Now through the end of October, Mitsubishi will let you use their money for free, offering 0% financing for up to 72 months. In lieu of the free financing, buyers can choose $1500 instead. There is also $500 available for both current Mitsubishi owners and members of the military.
While it is not the newest, fastest or best handling sport coupe on the market, the Eclipse does have a unique look, and with weak sales, you won't likely see yourself coming and going on your daily commute. That, plus some 0% financing, might just make the Eclipse worth looking into.

I have long felt that the current Eclipse was underrepresented on the streets. There are reasons for it though, like the car's weight, fwd layout, and Mitsubishi itself. But this is the only current Mitsubishi I could see myself in.
The only time I thought the Eclipse was cool was when this ad was running...
