Ford and GM Offer New Incentives to Restore Buyer Confidence

Automakers these days are tossing ideas at the wall and hoping that something sticks to restore consumer confidence. U.S. Government Will Back New Car Warranties Despite Possible Bankruptcies

Obama Team Gives GM, Chrysler Viability Plans Failing Grades; Re-Do Is Ordered

Chrysler and General Motors turned in their homework on February 17 and got them back with a big "F." The Obama administration has asked them to rework their viability plans because they "are not sufficient to justify a substantial new investment of taxpayer resources." Bankruptcy has not been ruled out as a possibility for either automaker. Obama's task force sees potential in GM's viability plans, but noted that Chrysler cannot keep afloat on its own.

70+ years ago, a little car from Germany changes the automotive landscape forever. Maybe you've heard of it -- the Volkswagen Beetle? A "people's car," as it was touted, made car ownership a reality for millions worldwide. Is the next people's car going to be the Tata Nano from India?

2010 Porsche Design Limited Edition 3 Cayenne GTS on the Way

If you've got some money to burn (and the SEC isn't snooping through your trash) and are looking for a very exclusive looking SUV, check out the Design Edition 3 Porsche Cayenne. Unless you live in L.A., the odds of seeing  yourself coming the other way are slim as fewer than 100 are expected to come to the U.S., and pricing has been set at $89,900. Buick, Jaguar Tops For Vehicle Dependability

How times have changed. A couple decades ago, Buick was riding low with cars like the bottom-feeding Skylark, and Jaguar electronics were as good a bet as the stock market these days. Now, according to J.D. Power's 2009 Vehicle Dependability Survey, Buick and Jaguar are tied for first place, edging out longtime leaders Toyota and Lexus.

2009 BMW Z4 Roadster First Drive

With a sleek new retractable hardtop design and an available 300-hp twin-turbocharged inline-6 under the hood, the 2009 BMW Z4 is nothing less than a reinvention of the Z roadster series. We've driven it. We like it. Shame about those twin drooping cutlines that dive-bomb the front wheelwells though.

2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Long-Term Introduction

We've heard about the muscle car's last hurrah before, yet somehow these tire-shredding V8-powered behemoths keep coming back to life. Dodge's latest effort sports a decidedly retro shape, though the interior is straight out of the Challenger's Charger sedan platform-mate. We couldn't resist picking one up for a year-long test. Our editors will be driving the Challenger on a nightly basis, so stay tuned to the inimitable Long-Term Blog for frequent logbook entries.

Inside Line Comparison: Hyundai Genesis Coupe vs Infiniti G37 Coupe

comparo-555.jpg

Since it was first introduced earlier this decade, the Infiniti G35 and later G37 have consistently toppled more expensive and more pedigreed luxury cars in comparison tests. Even if that BMW or Audi were technically better cars, the Infiniti's significant price and feature content advantage were often too good to ignore. Well, the G37 just got a taste of its own medicine.

The little Korean engine that could, Hyundai, keeps churning out impressive new machines. For power junkies and driving nuts, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is the most important yet. With rear-wheel drive, 306 hp, a sport-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes and downright sexy styling, the Genesis is aimed directly at the Infiniti G37 Coupe that costs thousands more -- $14,000 more in this test.

Which comes out on top? Which coupe's cuisine reigns supreme?
