Three vehicles were recalled today for different, unrelated reasons.
The 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler equipped with the automatic transmission is being recalled because they were not equipped with a transmission fluid temperature warning system. Fluid could boil over and may come into contact with a hot engine or exhaust component causing a fire. Full NHTSA recall information.
Mitsubishi is recalling 2008-2009 Lancer and Lancer Evolution X models sold in or currently registered in cold-weather states where heavy road salt is used in the winter. Long-term exposure to the typical winter water-salt mixture may corrode the front impact sensor, potentially retarding airbag deployment. Dealers will install new front impact sensors with improved corrosion resistance. Full NHTSA recall information.
Chrysler is recalling the 2007 Dodge Nitro for a faulty windshield wiper system. Full NHTSA recall information.

The sport-coupe segment has always been a tough sandbox for manufacturers to play in. The consumers who buy these types of vehicles tend to be very fickle, tending to gravitate to the freshest vehicles available. This leaves the more seasoned selections with lots of time to work on their tans, as they linger on dealer lots. Mitsubishi's Eclipse is no exception, as sales of this now four-year old model have been steadily declining.

Did you forget about the Endeavor? Don't feel bad, most people have. In fact, Mitsubishi even forgot to offer a 2009 model. But that doesn't mean you should forget to look at the Endeavor if you are in the market for a mid-sized CUV.
Back in 2003, the then new Endeavor beat out heavy hitters like the Nissan Murano, Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot in an Edmunds comparison test. It won that comparison test not by outright dominating, but by being consistently competent.
Though little changed since then, the core features that helped take the top slot in that comparison test are still present today. Edmunds editors noted the Endeavor's well-balanced ride and handling dynamics, a gutsy V6, a roomy, comfortable cabin and solid build quality.
But time waits for no CUV, and the losers in that comparison have all been redesigned since then, while the Endeavor has soldiered on without an update and with few changes. So in the absence of a redesign, Mitsubishi is endeavoring to sell more of their mid-sized CUV by offering up some attractive incentives. Read about them after the jump.

If you own a turbocharged Lancer, your next trip may be to the dealership for a new fuel pipe. Mitsubishi has recalled 6,903 turbocharged Lancer Evolution, Ralliart and Sportback Ralliart vehicles made in model years 2008 and 2009. According to NHTSA, these vehicles may develop vibration-related stress cracks in their fuel pipes. A crack could cause fuel leakage, which in turn has the potential to cause a fire.
Mitsubishi will replace the fuel pipe free of charge, and will also install two additional brackets to better manage fuel-pipe vibration. The recall is set to begin on or before September 29, 2009. For more information, owners may visit SaferCar.gov, or contact Mitsubishi at 1-888-327-4236.

Mitsubishi has just released official pricing for its new hatchback variants of the Lancer GTS and Lancer Ralliart. Dubbed "Sportback", these Lancers offer greater cargo capacity (and in the eyes of some, better styling) than the sedans. Specifically, the Sportbacks offer an impressive 52.7 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity, or about 9 cubes more than their chief Subaru Impreza rivals.
The GTS (which has the 2.4-liter, 168-hp inline four) with a 5-speed manual starts at $19,190 (not including destination). Fitted with the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), it's $1,000 more. The Ralliart version boasts a 237-hp, 2.0-liter, turbocharged four that sends the power to the ground via a six-speed automated dual-clutch manual gearbox and all-wheel drive. The price for all that performance along with room for your Ikea spoils? $27,590.

Mitsubishi has had a tough time in the US over the last decade, with sales falling at a precipitous rate. In the first three months of this year, Mitsubishi's US sales have fallen more than 50%. Meanwhile, in Canada, Mitsubishi's sales are actually up this year. Product, as always, is the key here. While Mitsubishi can offer up a winner like the Lancer Evolution X, which has been a relative hit in the Edmunds' long-term fleet, most of their offerings in this country are either overlooked or are just not competitive. The Galant mid-sized sedan is certainly one of them. But as they say, money talks. See what it has to say after the jump.

Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling almost 40,000 of its 2008-2009 Outlanders and Lancers due to faulty materials in the brake booster check valve. The valve could stick closed when the engine is shut off. When the engine is restarted and the car is driven slowly, the initial brake assist may not be sufficient. The danger? The distance it takes for your car to stop would be longer than expected, which could result in a crash.
Mitsu dealers will replace the valve free. Owners can call Mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to www.safercar.gov. For reference, the recall number is SR-09-002.
