First Drive: 2010 Suzuki Kizashi

Suzuki Kizashi.jpg

Forget everything you know about Suzuki. Actually, that should probably be easy, since aside from the old Sidekick, most Americans barely know the brand even exists. "Suzuki? Don't they make motorcycles?"

Well, Suzuki does make cars and it's just unveiled a midsize sedan that is radically different (and better) than anything it's produced in the past. The 2010 Suzuki Kizashi is a bit smaller than most of the increasingly large midsize family sedans, but a little bigger than a Volkswagen Jetta. Actually, Volkswagen is a good reference point, because cover up its badges and the Kizashi is remarkably European in appearance and demeanor.

Deal of the Week: Suzuki SX4

2009 Suzuki sx4 x-over.jpg

Everyone seems to have their favorite little "hole in the wall" restaurant where they can get a great tasting meal that doesn't break the bank. While it will never be confused with fine dining, or have the mass-market appeal of a national chain, that restaurant is the place you meet your family and friends for good food and good times.

The Suzuki SX4 is just like that favorite little eatery: not as well known, a bit quirky and not much to look at, but very satisfying and affordable. With hatchback versatility, available AWD capability and a look that will never be confused with a Toyota Corolla, owners of the SX4 rate it very highly and seem quite happy with their off-beat purchase.

However, the SX4's sales number pale in comparison to the top sellers in the segment, so in an effort to help stimulate consumer interest, Suzuki has some attractive incentives on its little hole-in-the-wall crossover. Learn about them after the jump.

FAQ Friday: Should I Take the Manufacturer Rebate or the Gas Price Guarantee?

gaslock 620.jpg

Summer usually mean more money spent on gas. So vehicle manufacturers, already offering record-level incentives, are adding "price protection" for fuel costs as a way to get you to buy a car this summer.

For example, Hyundai recently offered a Gas Lock program, part of the Hyundai Assurance program, in which new-car buyers will get 12,000 miles of gas at $1.49/gallon, slightly higher for midgrade and premium. Suzuki also announced Free Gas for Summer for purchasers of the Suzuki SX4, with gas cards worth $270 or $290, depending on the model you choose.

Some of these programs are worth it; other times they come with strings attached that make it difficult to determine their value.

Shopping This Weekend? New Car Specials Abound for 4th of July Holiday

Hyundai Sonata

Independence Day weekend means dealers are trying to move older vehicle inventory off their lots to make room for new models. This year, dealers are doubly pressed to move inventory because of months of sluggish car sales. So this 4th of July is a great time to bargain hunt.

Expect to find specials everywhere you look, but here are three of note:

Hyundai has a new Gas Lock program on most models bought or leased through August 31st. It guaranties $1.49/gallon regular fuel for your next 12,000 miles.

Not to be outdone, Suzuki is offering Free Gas for Summer on the Suzuki SX4 sedan or crossover. Manual transmission customers get an extra $2,000.

GM's 72-hour sale is underway, with 0% for 72 months finanancing on many of their 2009 models and 60-month 0% financing on the rest. Must take delivery by July 6th.

Make sure to check our Incentives and Rebates page to find out all the incentives you qualify for. Often, you'll have to choose between the lowest financing, cash back, and/or the gas programs. Do the math to figure out what's best for you.

Suzuki Announces 'Free Gas For Summer' Event

SX4 Summer Gas Promo 620.jpg

Manufacturers are pulling out all the stops as Cash for Clunkers (aka CARS) gets ready to go live on July 23. Suzuki is no exception, and like Hyundai, has announced a free-fuel based promo. The Suzuki "Free Gas for the Summer" event kicks off today (July 1) and runs through August 31.

The promotion will apply to the purchase of a new Suzuki SX4 sedan or crossover. Qualified buyers will get a pre-paid gas card, valued at $270 or $290, depending on the model. Suzuki estimates this fuel credit should last about three months, or until the end of the summer. In addition to the free gas, consumers who opt for a manual transmission will be eligible for a $2,000 customer cash bonus.

More details will be available at your local dealership or on Suzuki's website.
